Speech For/ HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abd Al Rahman Al Thani The Prisedent Of The Higher Commitee Of The Olympic Schools Day Chairman Of The Organizing Commitee's Senior Schools Olympic Day

The comprehensive development and progress the world is witnessing now, and the dynamic mobility taking place in the State of Qatar in all spheres of life, have all greatly influenced people’s life styles in Qatar.

Some aspects of this impact are negative and they lead to the spread of certain diseases as a result of luxury, less motion and lack of exercise. The most common types of these diseases are obesity, physical deformity, heart diseases and high rates of diabetes.

Convinced of the importance of the role of “School Sports” in preparing the good citizen who is able to serve his country, the Ministry of Education and the Qatar National Olympic Committee, are putting in place systematic and strategic plans to meet these changes and to make use of all that is available to meet the future challenges in order to promote sports in the State of Qatar to a level that helps to build a healthy and viable generation of youth that is capable of facing future challenges.

The Ministry of Education and the Qatar National Olympic Committee are collaboratively working to make the School Olympic Day Project a true embodiment of the slogan “Sports for Health”, so that this event achieves the objectives and philosophies of school sports.

The aim is also to enhance “school sports” so that it functions effectively to combat the health problems students are increasingly susceptible to as a result of less mobility and the fast changes happening in all spheres of life and the concomitant stress and pressures influencing behavior as well as physical and mental health in general. This will be achieved through building the components of physical fitness, changing the students’ life style, developing self-confidence and creating positive attitudes toward sports and exercise to achieve social development and health awareness.
